Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is conducted between one person and myself as the therapist.

Common goals of individual therapy include implementing behaviour change, establishing and maintaining relationships, developing strategies to increase personal effectiveness and the ability to cope, decision making and problem solving, and personal development.

The first session is spent getting to know you better and understanding the reason you have presented for therapy. The goals of therapy and frequency of sessions are discussed in the initial sessions and will guide therapy.

Often people feel nervous at the first session and are not really sure how psychology works, especially if this is their first time meeting with a psychologist. My job is to make this easy for you by helping you feel comfortable, and asking questions to help you get started.

After the first session, people are often pleasantly surprised just how easy it was, and I always check in with you at the next session and welcome any questions you may have.

Some common reasons to seek therapy include:

* Anxiety treatment

* Depression/low mood

* Grief/loss

* Relationships

* Sleep/insomnia

* Transitions/change/goals

We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know.
