Animal Assisted Therapy

Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) uses dogs or animals in therapy.

AAT has been shown to aid relaxation, lower anxiety, and improve mood. Engagement with AAT can aid social and emotional development, assist with emotional regulation and  support communication skills.

Research into the benefits of AAT and the human-animal bond shows an increase of oxytocin (often referred to as the love hormone), and a reduction in cortisol (the hormone produced under stress) both which improve overall well being. In short interactions with animals are good for our health!

In AAT sessions I work with my affectionate and fun-loving chocolate coloured Labradoodle 'Billy' (pictured here). Billy and I have have been working together as a therapy team for the last four years. I love witnessing the interactions that occur in sessions with Billy and the joy that he brings to people.

Providing AAT allows those who once considered therapy not possible, possible.

Walk and talk sessions are also available for those who would like the option of moving outside of the therapy room.

Be prepared for a warm and often 'licky' welcome from Billy.

We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know.
