Child & Adolescent Therapy

Therapy for children and adolescents often focuses on educational and developmental support to assist with learning, behaviour, and social skills. It can also support common mental health presentations such as anxiety and depression.

I enjoy working with children and adolescents' extended support networks to improve engagement, learning and belonging in education settings.

Therapy for children and adolescents looks different to adult therapy and often involves drawing, playing, and bibliotherapy (using stories and books).

Therapy for children also involves their parents and guardians, as we know that children do best when their parents are involved in the process. When working with young children, I like to dedicate the first psychology session to parents, as this enables me to gain a good understanding of the situation for both the child and the family.

I love the spontaneous nature of working with children and adolescents and the honest interactions that occur during therapy. Therapy can sometimes be messy but always fun!

Reasons children and adolescents may need additional support include:

* Divorce/separation

* Death/grief/loss

* Anger/aggression

* Change/adjustment

* Sleeping and eating

* Suicidal ideation and self harm

* Autism

* Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know.
